RIP Argus

With a heavy heart, I share with all of you that we had to put down our dog, Argus, last night.  He lived almost 16 years, which is amazing for a dog his size.

Things seemed fine, and then after his morning medicine Friday morning he laid down, never to get up again.  We brought him to the emergency hospital last night, hoping they could do something.  But the really super nice vet just didn't seem to have any good news.

Sadly, we decided it would be cruel to Argus to keep him alive.  They brought him in to let us say goodbye and he wasn't even responsive to us.

We took the below pictures just 3 weeks ago at my mom's birthday party...he really had been fine!!!!

RIP Argus...you were amazing!!!!!!

  1. Oh Becca honey, I'm so sorry to hear that. But you had 16 good years with Argus and the memories will live with you for ever. What a cutie he was. Argus my friend, Rest In Peace :)

    Aloha 'Oe

Ha`aheo ka ua i nâ pali
Ke nihi a`ela i ka nahele
E hahai (uhai) ana paha i ka liko
    Pua `âhihi lehua o uka

    Hui:
    Aloha `oe, aloha `oe
E ke onaona noho i ka lipo
    One fond embrace,
    A ho`i a`e au
    Until we meet again

    `O ka hali`a aloha i hiki mai
    Ke hone a`e nei i
    Ku`u manawa
    `O `oe nô ka`u ipo aloha
    A loko e hana nei

    Maopopo ku`u `ike i ka nani
    Nâ pua rose o Maunawili
    I laila hia`ia nâ manu
    Miki`ala i ka nani o ka lipo

Proudly swept the rain by the cliffs
As it glided through the trees
    Still following ever the bud
The `ahihi lehua of the vale

    Chorus:
Farewell to you, farewell to you
The charming one who dwells in the shaded bowers
    One fond embrace,
    'Ere I depart
    Until we meet again

Sweet memories come back to me
    Bringing fresh remembrances
    Of the past
Dearest one, yes, you are mine own
From you, true love shall never depart

I have seen and watched your loveliness
    The sweet rose of Maunawili
And 'tis there the birds of love dwell
And sip the honey from your lips

Be strong Becca :) My thoughts are with you and your family :)

  2. ugh, this sucks. Losing animals is just horrible. We had our cat put down in 1999 at 17 years old, I still think of her often. Until you see him again....

  3. I'm sorry. Out cat had to be put down recently so I know what you are going through. Although it was a hard choice, it was the right choice.

  8. I'm sorry for your loss. We live in the country on a few acres here in Montana. So we have 3 dogs and now 3 cats.

We recently lost our cat Leroy (last Saturday). Unfortunately, my wife found him when she was making the kids beds. He was an 11 year old, tabby, male cat. He seemed fine and healthy. In fact, I was petting him approximately 1 hour before he passed. Now, I've never liked cats much, I'm more of a dog lover. However, Leroy was a cool cat and will be missed dearly.

Here is something our vet gave us to try to help with closure:
Just this side of heaven lies the Rainbow Bridge.

When a beloved pet dies, it goes to the Rainbow Bridge. It makes friends with other animals and frolics over rolling hills and peaceful lush meadows of green. They are as healthy and playful as we remember them in days gone by.

Together, the animals chase and play, but the day comes when a pet will suddenly stop and look into the distance... bright eyes intent, eager body quivering. Suddenly recognizing you, your pet bounds quickly across the green fields and into your embrace. You celebrate in joyous reunion. You will never again separate.

Happy tears and kisses are warm and plentiful, your hands caress the face you missed. You look into the loving eyes of your pet and know that you never really parted. You realize that though out of site, your love had been remembered.

You cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

This Thanksgiving, one thing to be thankful for is all of the great memories you have of Argus. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
