Facebook

I'm on vacation, so my blogging might be even more sporadic than usual.  But I have a question.  Are you facebook friends with people you work with?  We have a "new" girl at work, and she happens to be a high school friend of my best friend.  She recently said she doesn't want to be facebook friends with anyone at work (with the exception of him since they were previously friends) because her friends might say things or post pictures that are who she "used to be", not who she is now.

I think it's dumb. Because I like her and because my best friend likes her, I had been thinking about hanging out with her etc.  Now, I don't think I want to, because she obviously wants to keep work and personal really separate.  I am friends with a ton of people at work, and I have restricted a few people because I don't like them or whatever.

What do you all think?

I don't friend anyone at work any longer. When I first had facebook I did and then I closed my account and reopened it months later. Work is work if you ask me. But if there is a friend in there that I enjoy at work then that's different but I don't go out and search. Who cares actually. There are plenty of people out there that you can be friends with. Have fun on your vacation :)

I am not sure why I am friends with some of the people I am with on FB. I think you should just be friends with her at work and not worry about the FB stuff. Who know where it will get you if things do not work out in your friendship.

I don't think you should take it personally, or let it affect a possible friendship. Who knows she may just tell everyone that to avoid FB drama. If your friendship begins to exceed work then she probably will add you.

I can understand that, lots of drama on facebook, myspace etc.Sometimes our personal lives do not need to be brought to work.Maybe she has done things she might not be so proud of or she thinks may make people look differently at her.Work is a place to present your professional side and not always your personal one.I wouldn't take offense at that and honestly why add stress to your life you don't need?

I think it depends on where you are in life. Or, your work life, as the case may be. Also, what kind of company you work for. In the past, I've worked for small companies where I was friends with most my co-workers. Now, I work for a large company with thousands of employees (most of which I've only interacted with via phone or email). And I'm not good friends with anyone there, either.

So, in my previous jobs, I would have friended everyone. (And AM friends with them now!) But now, I only friend the people I've met in person - and as soon as I leave this job, I'll probably unfriend most of them.

Just my two cents. :)

I am with some and not with others. It is a hard choice I think and it took me a very long time to break down my own personal boundaries a little and let my coworkers in a little more. I have started to think of them as family, instead of just a job. I am with some of them more than my own family it seems.
