Six Word Saturday - #8

Show my Face blog hosts Six Word Saturday each week.

Here's what you do
: Describe your life (or something) in just six words.

I finally unpacked from my trips!

(and it feels really really good)

Saturday 9 - #6

Saturday 9 blog posts 9 questions each week, sometimes with a theme and sometimes without.

Saturday 9: Rain

1. What do you typically like to do on a rainy day? I love watching movies and just listening to the rain

2. Tell us about the last time you did something you later regretted, that you can share with us. Normally when I regret anything, it's opening my mouth and saying something I shouldn't have. I don't remember any specific examples right now though.

3. I recently got an email from a lover from a very long time ago. I was asked "Have all your dreams come true?" If it were you and it was from someone you remember fondly, how would you answer the question? All of my dreams haven't come true yet, but I'm only 26 so that's okay.

4. If you had a job interview and was asked, "If you were an animal, what kind would you be (other than human?)" How would you answer that question. I would want to be a hippo, just because they are my favorite animals and they have relaxed lives :)

5. Do you think it is a good idea to share with a new lover stories of your past lovers? I think you need to be honest, but only to a certain extent. As with anything in life, there is such a thing as too much information!

6. When do you think it is permissible or even important to lie? This is a big issue to me...and I really never think it is okay to lie.

7. What was the last thing you did that you never thought you would? I played drunken Mario Party last Saturday night...and I almost never drink!

8. What is one important lesson that you learned from your mother? She taught me how to interact with people with tact.

9. What is one important lesson that you learned from your father? My dad taught me to love all animals, and how to work with them, train them, etc.

Typepad problems

I have a big problem. I can't comment on any blogs that are hosted on typepad. Does anyone know anything about this and how to fix it? Thanks!!!

Friday Fill-Ins #4

And...here we go!

1. It's time for me to shower, instead of blogging.

2.Santa Barbara ; it's not a bad place for raising a family.

3. I must be crazy to have woken up so early.

4. Chocolate is the best thing I have ever known.

5. My mom is simply amazing.

6. The last time I laughed really loudly was probably last night while I was playing with Latke.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to being home alone, tomorrow my plans include working on my blog and Sunday, I want to not starve at the lunch with the bad food!

Aloha Friday #12

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday. Thanks to Kailani at An Island Life for starting this fun for Friday. I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog . Please be sure to head over to her blog to say hello and sign the Mr. Linky there if you are participating.

My question is:

Where was the best vacation you ever went on?

We tend to go on vacations mostly to visit family, and never just for fun. I went to Israel for fun though last summer and it really was a life-changing trip.

Tell Me Thursday - #1

Tell Me Thursday is all about Wordless Wednesday.

So...my hair finally got long enough for me to donate. I cut off the required 10 inches to donate, and then my hairdresser cut off another 2-3 inches just for my haircut! I am going to donate to Locks of Love :)

I hope my hair grows out somewhat quickly so I can donate it again.

Below are a few more pics.

Wordless Wednesday #1 - My Hair Cut

Since this is supposed to be wordless....I will explain tomorrow.

Product Review: Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters

MyBlogSpark recently sent me my first official product to review - Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters. I was super excited about these because I have long been a fan of Nature Valley Granola Bars...especially the peanut butter ones!

They come in four delicious flavors: Roasted Cashew, Nut Lovers, Honey Roasted Peanut and Roasted Almond. Each cluster is perfectly bite-sized and each bag is resealable to assure freshness.

I'm not always a huge fan of some nuts but I actually loved each variety of these. The Nut Lovers variety obviously tasted a bit nuttier than the other flavors, and was the least crunchy for some reason. The other three varieties were extremely crunchy, which I loved. They all had a deliciously sweet taste.

My conclusion? These are definitely something I would buy at the store - probably in place of granola bars.

Thanks again to MyBlogSpark and Nature Valley for the opportunity to review these products.

Blog memes

I am having fun doing blog memes. I think I would like to eventually get to the point where I do memes AND regular posts, as opposed to one or the other. So I am asking all of you to leave me your favorite memes to help me with new ideas. Thanks!

Quotable Sunday - #9

Toni at A Daily Dose of Toni hosts Quotable Sunday each week. This week I have decided to do George Bernard Shaw, just because I like his quotes.

England and America are two countries separated by a common language.

He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches.

A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.

He who has never hoped can never despair.

The liar's punishment is not in the least that he is not believed but that he cannot believe anyone else.

Quotable Sunday - #8

Toni at A Daily Dose of Toni hosts Quotable Sunday each week. This week I decided to quotes by Abigail Adams, wife of John Adams. I have admired her ever since I did a report on her in elementary school.

I've always felt that a person's intelligence is directly reflected by the number of conflicting points of view he can entertain simultaneously on the same topic.
Great necessities call forth great leaders.
Arbitrary power is like most other things which are very hard, very liable to be broken.

I begin to think, that a calm is not desirable in any situation in life. Man was made for action and for bustle too, I believe.

Eggs and toast variations

So....my mom saw my Menu Plan Monday on Monday and said "oh, great post".

Now tonight she said..."what's on the menu for tomorrow?"

When I said "eggs and toast"...well let's just say if looks could kill...I wouldn't be writing this right now.

So, does anyone have any advice on a way to spice up eggs and toast? Good omelet combinations, or something totally different?

Thanks!!!!!

Old friends

Before I start, I reached 200 posts without realizing it...yay!

So I was at work today, and my mom intercommed me and asked me to come up to the office to say hi to Ricky. (My mom and I work for the same non-profit but in different offices). I asked her Ricky who but she didn't answer and so I started walking upstairs, wracking my brain. All of a sudden it clicked, Ricky was my old manager at Blockbuster. He left Blockbuster way before I did because he got a much better paying job (that he still has..that brings him to my new job).

When I entered the building, I heard him before I saw him. He has a very distinctive voice (he was even on a local radio station for years). Wow, I hadn't seen him in at least over a year! We used to work together almost every day when we both worked at Blockbuster so it was really exciting to get to see him!

Have any of you ever run into someone you used to see every day, but only had a minute to catch up? I almost want to ask him to hang out but we only used to hang out because he was dating my best friend. They have been broken up for quite a while now, and my friendship ended with her before they ever broke up. I just friend requested him on facebook. Tell me if you, my readers, think it would be weird if I asked him to get lunch or something.

Quotable Sunday - #7

Toni at A Daily Dose of Toni hosts Quotable Sunday each Sunday.

I decided to do some quotes today on happiness, since I sometimes have to work at staying happy :)

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.

-Abraham Lincoln

Laughing is the sensation of feeling good all over and showing it principally in one spot.

-Josh Billings

Happiness is not a goal; it is a by-product.

-Eleanor Roosevelt

If there were in the world today any large number of people who desired their own happiness more than they desired the unhappiness of others, we could have paradise in a few years.

-Bertrand Russell

Most people would rather be certain they're miserable, than risk being happy.

Eliters

I've never mentioned this on my blog before, but I am really involved in an online gaming site called Eliters. I host in the yahoo dominoes league there, but they also have leagues in game desire and pogo, and games like gin, backgammon, cribbage, and many more!

I have just applied to run the league in yahoo dominoes and really hope I get the "job"!!!!! So...if any of you like dominoes, please consider signing up and trying it out. Signing up is free, so I'm not trying to get anyone to spend money or anything. It would just help out my chances to get the job if people signed up for the dominoes league with my reference link.

So if you are interested, check it out. If you have any questions, please ask!!!!

Thanks and hope to see at least a few of my readers over there :)

Fancy Fortune Cookies Review and Giveaway

Erin at Fancy Fortune Cookies was kind enough to send me 4 different flavors of fortune cookies to try. She sent me regular/vanilla, orange, bubble gum and cappuccino. I have to say, I was impressed with the strong flavors in each cookie. You could distinctly tell what each flavor was without any doubts!!! The bubble gum was probably my favorite one!!!!!

When you order from them, you get to personalize the flavor/color, packaging and inside messages....how fun!!!!!

They have 14 flavors to choose from, and you can get any flavor dipped in white, dark or milk chocolate.

From the website:

y name is Mike Fry and I am a fortune cookie fanatic and flavoring pioneer. The story I'm about to tell you is the absolute truth, as incredible as it may seem. It will intrigue you and give you a glimpse into the ancient and very secretive world of the Chinese fortune cookie making business.

Founder &
Flavor Guru

Founder & Flavor Guru - Mike Fry

In late fall of 1987 I had a "crazy" idea that forever changed my life. (Check out the first newspaper article about my original concept!) While eating in my favorite small, local Chinese restaurant in Fort Wayne, Indiana, I wondered "Why doesn't anyone make fortune cookies in fun colors and fruit flavors that actually taste good, like Jelly Belly does with its gourmet jelly beans?"

Chinese Mike
The Old Idea

I was tired of my fortune cookies tasting bland, in one flavor choice and sometimes almost cardboard-like in taste. So, I decided to pioneer the idea and take on the challenge myself. Cold logic should have warned me about how hard my Willy Wonka style idea would be to pull off...

In fact, that "out of the box" decision has become my life's work and full-time career for the last 15 years! And it's taken me on a magical journey into the age-old-mystery of fortune cookie making and chinese proverbs.

I quit my job as a professional Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey clown. Yes! I was a clown with the "Greatest Show on Earth." In fact, you can still see my picture in the World Book Encyclopedia under the word "clown." Then, I set aside my own children's TV show which had been airing in 209 cities on FOX eight years in a row. I had an almost two-year wait for tickets to my 90-minute daily LIVE show and ratings that were some of the highest of any children's show in the midwest. It was a truly a performer's dream job!

Clown Mike

But, I was determined that my NEW IDEA was a good one. So, I turned in my notice and left my job in October of 1990 to the shock and laughter of my family, the TV station and my friends. Who would want to buy "flavored" fortune cookies made by a former clown, everybody jokingly kept asking me. They were all certain I would fall flat on my face. And the truth is only long talks with God got me through many days!

Little did I know that I was trying to break into one of the most unusual and secretive food industries you could imagine. Especially for a guy from Indiana with no college or marketing degree. In fact, I was literally the first non-Chinese person to EVER begin actually making and manufacturing my own fortune cookies in gourmet flavors and colors. One other guy tried to break into the traditional fortune cookie industry in the late 1980's, but went belly-up after figuring out his idea wasn't welcomed in the small and very closed world of Chinese fortune cookie makers. Maybe I really was crazy I often thought.

cookie assortment

I called 8 different Chinese fortune cookie companies back in late 1987, and tried unsuccessfully to find any one of them that thought my idea of flavors and colors was a good idea. Finally, my 9th contact was willing to listen to me...

For the next 2 years we painstakingly experimented and created tens of thousands of bad looking AND bad tasting batches of fortune cookies. It was a frustrating and expensive learning curve.

Recipe after recipe after recipe...

Finally after a bazillion cookies -- we "cracked the code." We mastered the ancient art of making fortune cookies in vibrant colors and flavors. It was a EUREKA moment!

From that very small and humble beginning, I've gone from not just inventing the very first flavors introduced to the Chinese-only industry (my first five flavors were strawberry, lemon, orange, blueberry, and mint in 1987) but I've gone on to create and manufacture a whole fun menu-of-flavors and a fireworks of brilliant colors you can customize with your own sayings or promotions inside.

Since 1987 I've invented a total of 17 different, delicious, and turbo-charged flavors used by many companies, restaurants and businesses across the U.S.

My goal is to make literally the best-tasting, best-looking and most memorable fortune cookies on the market. And I spare no expense in my chosen obsession!

Fancy Fortune Cookies is offering one lucky winner an assortment of 100 cookies! (You get to try every flavor!!!!)
