MTV Movie Awards

The performances are always amazing, so I decided to blog about them.

Eminem - He is so talented. It's a shame he gives off such a bad impression. I love his music and performances! Based off of tonight, I might buy his new cd.

Side note of Bruno...why in the world would he land on Eminem? You know who is more offensive than Eminem could ever be? Sacha Baron Cohen.

Chris Isaak and LeAnn Rimes and Forest Whitaker - A cute performance. I have always loved LeAnn Rimes. Hearing Forest Whitaker sing "D-ck in a Box" along with LeAnn and Forest was just strange lol.

Zac Efron, Triumph and Kiefer Sutherland - They did a really cute tribute to Ben Stiller. Ben Stiller movies crack me up, but I definitely have to be in the mood for them.

Kings of Leon - I have to admit I don't really like them and worked on commenting on blogs during their performance.

Awwww kinda stinks that there weren't more performances.

Quotable Sunday - #2

Toni at A Daily Dose of Toni hosts Quotable Sunday each Sunday. I decided to do quotes about kids today.

You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance.
~Franklin P. Jones

The best way to keep children home is to make the home atmosphere pleasant -- and let the air out of the tires.
~Dorothy Parker

Children need love, especially when they do not deserve it.
~Harold Hulbert

Children seldom misquote. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said.
~Author Unknown

Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing up is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing.
~Phyllis Diller

Quotable Sunday - #1

Toni at A Daily Dose of Toni hosts Quotable Sunday each Sunday. Although a lot of people are doing Memorial Day quotes today, I would like to share some quotes by Mark Twain.

Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint.

Man is the only animal that blushes. Or needs to.

I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.

If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the difference between a dog and a man.

It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. (This is one of my all-time favorites.)

When in doubt, tell the truth.

Of all the animals, man is the only one that is cruel. He is the only one that inflicts pain for the pleasure of doing it.

Pet Treats

My dad called tonight, and somehow ended up telling me he had given the dog 3 treats today. He is watching the dog while my mom and I are in Los Angeles taking care of my grandparents. I commented that I think 3 is a bit too many. We try to buy Argus really good treats, but I personally try to make sure he has 1-2 per day at most.

He is pretty old so we only give him soft treats. Some of our favorite treats to give him are Snausages SnawSomes, Canine Carry Outs chicken grillers and Jerky Treats.

So because I'm curious now, do you give your pets treats and if you do, how many do you give?

$1 Old Navy Flip Flops

For the past few days, everyone had been blogging about $1 flip flops at Old Navy. So I asked my mom to go with me this morning to Old Navy. I figured out they opened at 10 am and we decided to leave the house at 9:30. We didn't leave til almost 9:40 and she didn't understand what my rush was.

When we got to Old Navy a few minutes before 10:00, there were at least 200 people waiting to be let in. The people I was most surprised to see were moms with strollers. These sales always turn into mob scenes and seem unsafe for little kids. I mean, people had their hands on the mall door (that metal grate thing) and were shaking it, while chanting "open the store".

My mom and I knew we had to separate so when the door opened I followed the crowd back to the huge display of flip flops. I stood there for a while, unable to push my way up. After a while tho, I got to the front and grabbed many pairs in my size and color. During this time tho, flip flops were thrown and hit my head, I was elbowed all over, I was stepped on and I was almost shoved into the racks that hold the flip flops. My mom had gone to the kids and grabbed the bigger kids sizes in a variety of colors. We met with our finds and figured out which colors we wanted and then got in the LONG line.

In the end, we came home with 9 cute pairs and a cute tote bag. What an experience!!!

Small Talk Six - 6 Things You Love or Hate About the Ocean

Since I unfortunately hate the beach....I will list 6 things I hate:

1) Dirty
2) Sand

4) Sunburns
5) Tar
6) Seaweed

Normally I'm not so negative....but the only thing I like about the beach are the shells and that just doesn't make for a very interesting post lol

Fairytale Brownies

I recently won an awesome prize from 1HappyCorner.com. I was so happy when Betty emailed me to tell me I won. I won the Mother's Day Surprise from Fairytale Brownies.

After Betty emailed me, I hurriedly emailed her back my shipping address. After only a few days, I received my prize. It was packed in a plain box but inside it was beautifully wrapped.

It contained:
  • 9 Magic Morsels (small square brownies)
  • 6 Fairytale Sprites (slightly bigger rectangular brownies)
  • Fairytale Endings chocolate sauce
  • Jumbo Cashews

I haven't had a chance to try everything yet, but my favorite by far has been the caramel brownies. My mom and dad have also tried them and agree!

They have great gifts for all occasions. Don't hesitate to go to Fairytale Brownies the next time you need a great gift!

Aloha Friday #3

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday. Thanks to Kailani at An Island Life for starting this fun for Friday. I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog . Please be sure to head over to her blog to say hello and sign the Mr. Linky there if you are participating.

My question is:

Who are your favorite movie stars?

My favorite girl is definitely Scarlett Johansson

My two favorite boys are Adam Brody and Shia LaBeouf

A bit busy

I left work last night to head down to Los Angeles to take care of my grandparents. My grandma is so sick, it's so hard to see. She doesn't even care about going to the Beauty Shop (and this is the lady who won't come to visit me before going). We are hopefully getting test results tomorrow and will know what's going on and how to treat it!

St. Ives Elements Warming Scrub

I just bought this product because I found myself out of town without any face wash. St. Ives Elements Warming Scrub was half off so it ended up costing less than $4 for the bottle.

I forgot to smell it when I bought it so I was relieved that it smelled good when I opened it. But unfortunately, I only showered a few hours ago and my face already feels oily. I have oily skin to begin with, but this scrub didn't do anything to help.

I would have to advise buying against this product, and I know I won't be buying it again.

Game Show Network

I am watching Game Show Network right now. I love all of the old TV shows. On Wheel of Fortune, Vanna was showing off her 10 month old baby (I looked him up on Wikipedia and he was born like 17 years ago). Now I am watching old $100,000 Pyramid. It's nice to remember Dick Clark like that.

I love the new show Lingo but it seems to only be on at night.

They just don't really make many good game shows like they used to. What are your favorites?

Weddings

I was recently invited to a wedding in July. There are people I have known forever but haven't really kept in touch with lately. I am definitely going because they are great people and we only haven't kept in touch because they moved out of town.

So, how much do you think I should spend on a gift? I knew them both separately long before they even know each other, so I would say I consider both of them my friends.

My question is:

What is your favorite animal?????

For whatever reason, mine is a hippopotamus. I think they are just amazing, and love collecting figurines / stuffed animals of them!

Six Unimportant Things That Make Me Happy

Maria from Maria's Space tagged me!

I have to list 6 unimportant things that make me happy. The simple things in life, those are what truly brings us happiness right? But we really never stop to pay attention to them.

The rules for this tag:
Mention the person who tagged you.
List 6 Unimportant Things that Make You Happy
Tag 6 More Blogs

I've never been tagged before so this is kind of exciting.

1) Eliters - I spend a lot of my time playing dominoes and gin there and always have something to do.

2) Chocolate milk. If I could never drink anything else again, that would be my choice.

3) DVR - I don't even know when any shows are on.

4) Blog hits - Don't want to write for no one.

5) Woot offs - I WILL get a bag of crap one day!

6) Office supplies - I just like them...no reason!

I am tagging the following folks:

Audrey
Erin
Kathy
Ron
Khadra
Lori

You Don't Mess With the Zohan

A few weekends ago Starz did a free preview weekend, and I taped a ton of movies. One of them was "You Don't Mess With the Zohan". I heard it was not great but I love Adam Sandler so I decided to tape it anyway.

The movie was indeed silly, but typical of Adam Sandler comedies. It did have many Jewish and Arab references, music and language, so I could see where the average American might not enjoy it so much. Part of what I enjoyed was the great Israeli music, it's hard to find in America.

I would love to know what everyone who did see it thought of it.

If you are into Middle Eastern culture and comedy, I think you will enjoy this movie. If not, it's kind of up in the air.

American Idol

I'm sad Danny went home but I think people like him enough that he will be okay. He has a certain charm to him, beyond the other 2.

Between Kris and Adam, I have to assume Adam will win. But again, they are both so amazing I think they will both do really well. Kris is so gorgeous I am rooting for him, but I know Adam is the amazing talent between the two of them.

Either way, the finale next week will be great. And I am soooo excited for "So You Think You Can Dance" and I heard "Glee" is already getting rave reviews as well.

Product Reviews

I am slowly trying to start getting into doing product reviews. A number of blogs that I go to say that companies contacted them about doing a review. Right now I have only done reviews of random products I own and 1 that my mom got. I have another one coming that I solicited. Does anyone have any advice on how to solicit more but even better, how to get companies to contact me?

Thanks for any and all advice!

Life Update

My grandpa seems to be on the mend but is still at the hospital.

My grandma finally went to the doctor, they drew blood, her white blood cells are way over what they should be, and they are going to go from there.

On Sunday I had to ask the friend that was living with me to leave. That was really hard. Now today we got the garage door fixed so you can't just open it from the outside. And a locksmith is here changing the locks...because the friend lost our key and never bothered to tell us.

The evacuated reptiles I was pet-sitting got picked up yesterday. I miss the geckos and really think I am going to buy some after all my summer trips.

Things have to improve from here on out. :)

Sunday, May 10, 2009

Grrrr

So I'm at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. As promised, they have internet. Unfortunately, no good sites load. I can't use Pogo, Neopets, Facebook, Myspace, Eliters, Zone, Online Sweepstakes or Yahoo Games. My mom thought it was gaming sites, and I went on to say it was all sites that use a lot of bandwidth! Ugh!!!!!

Jesusita Fire Update

Ugh...the name Jesusita bugs me to begin with....

As of the last news update...the fire is 30% contained. So far, I haven't heard of anyone I know losing a house...but tons of people's neighbors lost theirs. The weather has way cooled off and the winds have died down so hopefully all will be better now.

We still have 5 torahs and 4 reptiles in our house. I actually took out the smaller snake tonight....it wasn't so bad!

On a completely different note...my grandfather was admitted to the hospital last night. They think it is the same thing he had in October...an intestinal blockage. We are going to Los Angeles tomorrow to be with him but more so to keep my grandma company. She refuses to leave the hospital whenever he is admitted and I don't blame her...it seems to be the only way to guarantee he receives the best care.

Continue to keep my family and Santa Barbara in your thoughts (and prayers if you pray).

Aloha Friday

Thanks to Kailani at An Island Life for starting this fun for Friday. Please be sure to head over to her blog to say hello and sign the Mr. Linky there if you are participating.

I live in Santa Barbara and our whole town is basically on fire. I can't help but base my question off of that....

If you had to evacuate immediately, what would you take with you?

Mrs. Prindable's Homemade Confections

My mom was lucky enough to receive a delicious triple chocolate caramel covered apple from Mrs. Prindable's Homemade Confections. OMG

It arrived in a huge box. Inside the box, the apple was in a beautiful purple box wrapped in a bubble-wrap type refrigerated wrap and had multiple cold packs covering it. The wrapping worked really well. The chocolate/caramel weren't melted at all and no pieces of chocolate had broken off.

We brought it to work to try out and shared it with multiple co-workers. Everyone loved it! The caramel and chocolate both taste like they are a high quality. The apple was crisp and sweet. And we even had a little bit to bring home for later.

Mrs. Prindable's will ship to anywhere in the United States. These apples are amazing and would make a great gift for yourself or a loved one! :)

Fire in Santa Barbara

If anyone doesn't know, I am from Santa Barbara.

And we are on fire....again. This is third big fire in less than 12 months. This is becoming ridiculous. Especially when you consider how many of the fires have been "accidents" as opposed to like...nature caused.

Thankfully we are not in the danger zone, but my workplace kind of is.

I see people reading....where are the commentors?

Maybe if I ask a vague question.....how is everyone doing? Is there anything you would like to see from me on my blog?

Or...just say hi :)

Spiders

Okay....I am going to start right off admitting I do NOT like bugs, spiders, etc.

But in the last week...I have caught 3 spiders crawling on me, 2 of them in the last few hours, all while sitting in the same place.

You know how everyone has their favorite spot to sit in the tv room? Yeah, this keeps happening right there, so I have no desire to move. But...why in the world are there so many spiders, and why are they crawling on me?????

Oh and...the first time I didn't realize and totally squished it all over...ewwwww

Any ideas to prevent this from happening again????
