Aloha Friday #16

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday. Thanks to Kailani at An Island Life for starting this fun for Friday. I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog . Please be sure to head over to her blog to say hello and sign the Mr. Linky there if you are participating.

My question is:

What do you suggest to get rid of ants?

We are infested in our new house :(

Ant Terro. It works!

I hear they will not cross a path of chalk. We draw lines around our tires with chalk when we go camping so the ants do not come into our rv

We've had serious ant problems in the past as well. I use chemicals: granuals that you spinkle all around the outside of your house near the foundation and then spray that you use inside all around the perimeter. Together it's totally taken care of our problem.

I use the fogger (RAID) when I see 'em. It works for a couple months

I say... smoke them out :)))) jk

Hope you get rid of them tough.. it's a very annoying thing i guess.. so yeah..wish you luck!

Stopping by from An Island Life :)

Happy Aloha Friday!

I usually use Raid, but my neighbor who is an entomologist sort of person said he uses Windex and then puts talc powder at the point of entry. I guess it helps kill them, erase the path, and block the entrance. But I haven't tried it, so I can't promise anything! Good luck!

Cinnemon and baby powder. The cinnamom deters them and the baby powder dries them up.

We were invaded by ants this spring and I ended up buying Ortho Home Defense and it worked! Now I got to figure out how to get rid of fruit flies....

We use Ortho Home defense also. it works great. We also have the Ridex plug in boxes, they really help keep them down. Ortho is used outside around the house. Have a great Aloha Friday.Blog Link is in my name

We use Sevin around the outside of our home. I do not like chemicals, however, I detest ants in my home.

I wish I could help! Maybe you could go to Home Depot and see what they suggest!

I use chemicals.

We use ant traps inside and spray and stakes along the perimeter of the house.

Oh man. Ants are horrible. :(

We have to use chemicals to keep them at bay here. I haven't found a single thing that works otherwise.

If you don't want to use Raid etc. I sometimes use Windex. Makes it easier to clean too :)
Have a great Friday!

Here at home we do the baby powder thing as well. At camp we use chemicals.

I've heard you can sprinkle borax around the outside of your house, but I don't know if it works.

if you find something that really works let me know

Terro Ant killer works great, is cheap @ Walmart, & simple to use. Tear off a piece of cardboard or use a disposable plate. Pour a bit of liquid on it & put it in a high traffic area. The ants walk through it & when they lick their feet later to clean them, it kills them.

When it comes to bugs, I rely on chemicals so I use Ortho Home Defense Spray and spray the entire perimeter of the house. It works!

My hubby uses Amdro.

We had the same problem. I would love to say that we found a natural remedy, but unfortunately we just had to spray outside around the kitchen door and window. We finally got rid of them.

Veggiemomof2-Ants lick their feet? Don't ya just learn something new everyday?? All I can tell you is that I had a cat once that wiped an infestation out! She ate them! http://psychicmamaindigochild.blogspot.com/2009/08/aloha-friday-3-squares.html

For fire ants we use Ortho granules. For indoor we spray Indoor/Outdoor spray that is safe for dogs and kids. We used to have a bug guy, but he didn't do the best. So I do it now and we kept the termite protection/insurance. Aloha and take care.

Great song choice BTW.

We tried all sorts of home remedies, which didn't work. But we did finally get some stuff from Mike's grandma, but I don't actually know what it's called. Sorry to be of no help!

I wish I knew. We have tons here.

I've heard something about boric acid or baking soda with vinegar sprinkled around

Kristen Andrews said...

oh yikes I am not sure but chemicals scare me more than ants.

Unknown said...

I have heard that they won't cross red pepper...weird and I haven't tried it! Aloha!

I think you really need a chemical spray for this. I don't like foggers, especially if you have young kids. You really have to clear out of the house. Perhaps just a spray, open the windows, and head outside. Never had to use a professional; but if all else fails . . .

I haven't found a "cure" yet. I was told that sprinkling borax around their entryways would work. It didn't for me.

Maria@Conversations with Moms said...

Ant spray usually works for us (Raid). It will last about a month before you have to spray again.

Terro works wonders!! It really gets rid of them fast!

When you find your answer let me know. I get them in the back door all around our kitchen door. I just vacuum them up and it is OK for a couple days but doesn't solve the real problem.
