Camera Critters #2

Camera Critters

Week Two of this awesome new meme!  This one asks a question...and also lets us share our animals!  The question this week is "Are you taking a vacation this summer?"  So far I have a trip to Denver planned in June and a trip to Boise planned in August.  I might go on a road trip and I might go to Paris but who knows for sure.

My dad and I found a unique looking bird in the yard the other day.  I have no idea what it is, and unfortunately wasn't able to get the best pics of it.  But I will share what I got and hope maybe someone has an idea!

Any guesses?

I'm hopeless at telling birds apart and find that while I know some of the local ones quite well, when I photograph a new one, I have to pour over a bird book or bird website to make a positive id. Maybe you might find it here: http://www.whatbird.com/browse/objs/All/birds_na_147/110/Color/2116/Yellow

It's always exciting to see something new and then do the detective work to figure out what it was. Good luck! And your holiday plans sound lovely - I'd like to stow away in your luggage for a trip to Paris :-) We'll be spending our summer on our yacht sailing in the Swedish archipelago - very low key but relaxing.

It doesn't look like one we see here in UK. It's always exciting to see an unfamiliar bird, isn't it?

I might go against the grain and say it's a summer tanager. From the pics, it looks way too big for a Goldfinch. They are relatively popular in California (and throughout the west coast).
